one time I got hugged, remember? Like how I got hacked. I felt like devastated.
Why are people literally stealing from Children?
Why would you go in and intentionally ruin someone's game?
There is a problem brewing when it comes to cybercrime
and Children.
I enjoy video game because it's like a whole different like world
I enjoyed gave him, because you could collect collectibles and rest off
video games mean to me joy, happiness, a time to get your mind off things
You can talk to your friends, just chilling and games and stuff.
I was like, Oh my God, I've just got hacked and I felt that I was betrayed.
It's kind of annoying. I was like, What is happening?
Gaming has become one of the number one things for kids entertainment.
It's no longer going out and riding bikes or or, you know,
hiking or fishing whatever.
Now it's online gaming.
My favourite video game would be a rocket league
because one of my favourite sports his football,
and it's like a mix of cars and football.
Do you know how many hours a day
on the weekdays? About 45 minutes on
weekends? About two hours I think
interesting each day.
I think he spends a lot of time too much time, probably about 30 hours, plus,
if not more,
quite a lot. One of my favourite games, robots put the games on there.
There's like Blacksburg because I love like building houses and
it's quite good because she gets jobs to get money,
to buy stuff for the house, which I think is quite good.
Like teaching them that you actually have to have a job
to get money because you were clean it weren't you?
Janitor.
Yeah,
the important thing here is that if you put effort
into something because you have completed levels or tasks,
that thing now has value.
I started playing video games two years ago, and they are very important to me.
My favourite game is simulator,
which is part of the blocks you can open next
to get better pets and collect James and other stuff.
Brooke here are calling it the gold box that you can
buy game processing games that help you get better way faster.
One of the more recent development in games has focused on in game purchases.
It's the idea that yes, you bought the game.
But now, if you want more, you have to pay a little bit extra so unbeknown to me,
grandma and job, and have a little system where Jovan will go to Grandma and say,
Can I have £7 to buy this token to do this and
we have to kind of keep grandma in check as well. Sometimes
I've been involved in several organisations, one which was anonymous.
Right now I'm working with kids in trouble, getting them on the right path.
Most of the time,
the kids have their parents credit card or debit card attached to the account.
What they don't understand is there are people
in that game that look for those purchases
and they make money off that and they
trade those accounts and they sell those accounts or
they sell items within that account that digital
currency can be translated into monetary funds in
their pocket just by taking it out of the game and extracting it into a bank.
And that's why you see organised crime groups
being involved in that type of activity.
Kids are often more susceptible to these kinds of social engineering attacks.
They have almost like no experience on how people would take advantage of them.
Can you tell me what what hacking means?
Do you do the white hacking means running someone
goes on to your account without you knowing
and like take things from you The word hacking means
when someone tries to steal your good stuff and scum you
I kind of think of a little man with a hat
like hacking just kind of someone getting into your information.
Back in 2020 at the start of the year, I got hacked.
They stole all of my outfits on roadblocks that had, like a few, like,
really cool one.
Still like
1000 robots. Like, I think I like this dragon armour thing.
All of my stuff was stolen. Like what?
Like some of the best person. The game
one of the pets that were stolen was a griffin.
I had a car and it was fully customised.
And I had this really cool wheels, this really cool decals.
But then when I came home, I saw that the wheels were gone. The decal has gone on them.
I think I started to realise what happened.
My account was like, fully taken off me.
Um,
and obviously the money that we put into it with wrote books and like
all the pets on that account and everything was like gone for turtle things,
A crow.
I felt like devastated that it's all gone.
And I think I was crying. Yeah, I was crying.
Even though the item is digital,
that sadness is genuine and it makes total sense when you think about the
thought and care that kids are putting into their digital creations on the day,
the house have to feel very sad.
And I didn't understand why what was happening when I got hurt. It was exhausting.
Like to start again, like if someone takes your stuff,
you're going to have to earn it back, and you're gonna have to play a lot, obviously.
And when you play a lot in the game,
you get burned out of the game when we hear kids using the word burnout
and using it in a space where you would expect them to be having fun,
I think it's a really good use of the
term because I can guarantee you they are exhausted.
Account gets attacked, gets hijacked.
It takes forever to get it back if you can even get it back,
and by the time you get it back, there's nothing left.
When I found out a little bit disappointed and I felt betrayed
by that guy and like I worked so hard for it,
and then he just took it away from me.
I don't feel that safe on it anymore because of what did happen.
He's not playing it as much, didn't you? Yeah.
The gaming companies in the gaming industry needs to take more
responsibility when it comes to the effects it has on kids.
What, it might be very traumatic to lose an in game item you worked so hard for.
At the same time, it actually teaches you a very important lesson in life,
even though it's a negative overall experience.
One thing it helps the kids do is understand technology a
little bit more and to learn the basics of cybersecurity.
Since then,
I changed. Like all my passwords. The hack did
kind of change how I played. I think I feel like I have this situation
and control
when he says I've got the situation under control, I don't know what he means.
How many times have you actually made since playing?
Um, something like four. Wow. So why have you got four?
Mostly just to have all my other stuff stored in the account.
Why have you decided to have a back up again? Okay, so I get hurt again.
